What is the story behind US ASIA Connections?
Hi, my name is David Goh, founder of USASIA Connections. I grew up
in
Singapore
and live a fair bit of my adult life in
America
, mostly in
Seattle, Washington
. I graduated from
Montana Tech University
with a BSc in Metallurgical Engineering. I also graduated from the Project Lead
Program offered by the non-profit organization,
United Way
, in
Seattle, Wa
.
I was at a crossroad of my life in 2002.
One day, alone at a hotel room in a remote town of the French Alps, I broke down.
I broke down because I did not know the true significance of my life even though
I was a Christian and had a good job in the aerospace industry. Despite traveling
to exotic places, learning and seeing many interesting things and places, I was
not at peace with myself. Eventually, I quit my well-paying aerospace job....just
to think about life, to search, to put a stop to time, at least in my mind. Serendipitously,
a doctor friend of mine gave me the book, “Game Plan” by Bob Buford (www.halftime.org).
Reading
“Game Plan” changed my whole perspective in life. Two key points
jumped at me:
Significance for my second half of my life
and re-paradigm my life. Yes, my past is prologue. The second half of my life will be of significance! Since then, the idea of setting up a non-profit organization
took root. Alas, I set up USASIA Connections with the goal to make business with
a mission. I formed USASIA Connections to provide value added services to generate revenues and concurrently build a strong and profit making business platform for
future non-profit assignments, examples of which include micro enterprise developments
and retreat center.
Some may wonder why I choose to set up
a business to make money with future goals of non-profit assignments. It took me
a while to reconcile the two. I had thought that the reason for starting a business
is to make money while there are many ways that one can help people without the
headaches of running a business. Personally, I came to realize that one can sabotage
one’s effort to both help people and make money by focusing on the former at the
expense of the latter. When that happens, failure is inevitable and one would wonder
why it did not work out when the motive has been so pure. I believe that nobody
can “help people” if they cannot feed themselves. Non-profit assignments can be
costly and require among other things, monetary support.
With USASIA Connections, I welcome you
to partner with me in my endeavor to build a strong profitable business platform
for future non-profit assignments.
What is a manufacturer rep?
Manufacturer’s rep (a.ka. sales reps) offer manufacturers an efficient and cost effective way to sell their products. Reps are independent salespeople who work on commission, i.e. the manufacturer pays them a percentage of what they sell. Contrast this with direct selling in which the manufacturer must carry sales employees’ full costs, labor and expenses regardless of sales level
They are sales reps servicing virtually every market in every region of the world. Reps service a specific market in a specific region(e.g. machine shops in MI, retail gift stores in the Midwest...)
Their “ value added” is their knowledge of that regional market. They know the buyers in that regional market, call on them regularly and have built up credibility, or at least a working relationship, with them over time.
Reps carry a limited number of lines
Why use USAC?
“WE DO WHAT WE SAID WE WILL DO”
Why use manufacture rep?
There are a few good reasons in selling thru' manufacturer reps. The commom ones
are lower sales costs, better market intelligence and increase sales.
